Many people have at least one superstition that influences their behavior or well-being.  But finding a heads-up penny won't increase your longevity or reduce your risk of disease.  What can help your overall health and well-being is a healthy spine!

A healthy spine is essential to our overall health.  It is the most important part of your body.  Therefore you want to ensure it is functioning properly.  Here are some ways you can maintain your spine health:

Regular Exercise: In order to benefit from exercise you need to do it regularly.  Do whatever activity you like to keep your body healthy, your spine in line and your range of motion wide.

Healthy Weight: Your diet has an effect on more than just your weight.  Maintaining a healthy and well balanced diet is important to your spinal health too.  Too much weight can attribute to pressure on the spinal column.  This can lead to pain, tension, and other negative and unwanted symptoms.  Eating the wrong food can also lead to malnourishment.

Sleep Well: Posture isn't only important during the day - we spend approximately one third of our lives sleeping, so the position in which we sleep in is important too.  Chiropractors generally recommend sleeping on your back or side, rather than your stomach, on a supportive mattress.

Regular Check-up: Just like you go to your primary care physician or dentist for regular check-ups it is important for you to also have your spine checked regularly.  You may have a misalignment that you are not aware of.  Misalignments can lead to pains and other issues in the body.  Visit your chiropractor regularly to have your spine checked.
